LPU seeing huge rush in the enrollment for Distance Education Programs

Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) Scheme of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, has been gaining great response in the Punjab state. Thousands of students from Punjab state have already enrolled themselves for LPU Distance Education (DE) Programs for both undergraduate and post graduate programs and have availed PMS scheme. With the Punjab Government’s extension of the last date to 15th September 2014 to avail PMS scheme, quite a large number of applications are still being received at the university. The details of the scheme and online procedure to apply for the same are available on Punjab Government’s website http://www.punjabscholarships.gov.in/.

LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal informs: “We are happy to provide quality education to all the deprived sections of the society. Our distance education programs cater to the needs of the students who cannot commute daily from distant parts of the state. These programs are also for businessman, working professionals, housewives or others who could not pursue their education due to circumstantial restrictions. At present, our university is providing all support to control the heavy rush of students so as to enable each and every deserving student to avail the scheme.” Mr. Mittal further said: “We are also pleased to note that maximum of the students of the state have preferred our distance education programs. We accord equal chances to distance education students as to our regular students. LPU is even walking with corporate houses to provide placement opportunities to students. Every time a course is designed industry feedback and inputs are taken to ensure that the courses are industry relevant. Our DE students are enjoying great placement with super global brands in almost all sectors- banking, IT, consultancy and more.”

Illustrative, LPU DE programs are duly recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), an apex body for the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system. 

PMS Scheme is being run by the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Punjab, in association with Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the SC & OBC students studying at post matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education. PMS scheme is for the study of all recognised post-matriculation or post-secondary courses at recognised institutions only.
