Personal Contact Programme held at LPU Campus with massive participation of Distance Education Students

2nd phase of the Personal Contact Programme (PCP) for LPU Distance Education students of session 2016-2 was conducted at Lovely Professional University campus from 9th to 13th May 2017. Several hundred students from various parts of Punjab attended the PCP and interacted with expert university faculty for face to face academic counselling.

Based on the online registration of the students, university planned and conducted PCP classes in the disciplines of Computer Applications, Information Technology, Management, Library & Information Sciences, Commerce, Mathematics, English, Education, Economics, Hindi, Political Science, History and Sociology. Around 100+ faculty members were engaged to conduct classes pertaining to 250+ courses. Students from places like Jalandhar, Phagwara, Phillaur, Barnala, Hoshiarpur, Amloh, Ludhiana, Abohar, Rayya, Patti, Ferozepur, Nawanshahr, Amritsar, Doraha, Dharamkot, Ajnala, Balachaur etcattended the PCP classes. Out-stationed students resided in the university hostel during the PCP.

LPU Distance Education Student felicitated by President of India Padma Vibhushan Pranab Mukherjee during 8th Annual Convocation of LPU

Lovely Professional University stood tall and proud when it conferred its honoris causa doctorate degree upon Hon’ble President of India Padma Vibhushan Shri Pranab Mukherjee at its 8th Convocation held on 2nd May 2017. Hon’ble President also bestowed Ph D Degrees, 38 gold medals and 164 Awards upon meritorious LPU students for their outstanding academic & research performances. 

On this occasion, Hon’ble President Mukherjee also bestowed LPU Distance Education student Jamini (BCA) from Ludhiana with trophy for her great performance in Bachelors of Computer Applications. Also seven Distance Education students Taranjeet Kaur ( B.Sc.IT ) from Ludhiana, Sanjeev Kumar ( MBA) from Phillaur, Aditi Wasil (MBA) from Jalandhar, Ishita Bansal (MCA) from Abohar, Sahil Singla (M.Sc.IT) from Samana, Priya Dhanjal (PGDBM) from Garhshanker and Baldev Kaur (M.A. HISTORY) from Rampura Phul were felicitated for being toppers in their respective programmes. Governor Of Punjab Shri V P Singh Badnore presided over the convocation. LPU also awarded degrees/diplomas to 16,000+ regular and distance education students of the 2016 batch.

It is indeed a rare occasion for any of the universities when First Citizen of the country acknowledges its honoris causa doctorate degree. It is 7th such a bestowing, and prior to this six great leaders of the world including Presidents and Prime Ministers of Afghanistan, Mauritius, Kingdom of Lesotho, Commonwealth of Dominica, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatsosix have also been recipients of honoris causa doctorate degrees of LPU. It was second time that LPU was honoured to receive the President of India at the campus at its convocation, as Shri Pranab Mukherjee has already graced LPU’s 3rd Convocation in the year 2013. 

While delivering convocation address President Mukherjee lauded the diversity at LPU campus. He also stated that there is no Indian university in the top 200 ranking globally but it is time to take a leap as many universities are working hard. He emphasized that LPU has huge potential to be amongst the top universities in the country. Expressing that convocation is always an important landmark in the life of students as it recognizes their hard work, he also encouraged students that the skills they have acquired at their alma mater will help them in facing challenges and hard realities of outside world in next phase of their life, as education is power.” Governor Badnore advised students not to go for short cuts and lead a life of purpose. 

Prior to this, Hon’ble President also inaugurated the largest convention center of India ‘Unipolis’ at LPU campus, which can cater to more than 30,000 peoples’ gathering at a single given time. Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal welcomed Hon’ble President and Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal welcomed Governor Shri Badnore. On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Vijay Sampla; Cabinet Minister for Irrigation and Power, Punjab State, Rana Gurjit Singh; Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal; Vice-Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal; LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal; Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal; and, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ramesh Kanwar also shared the main dais along with the Chief Guest Mr Mukherjee & Governor Shri Badnore. A large number of other elite guests including industrialists from all over the country, ambassadors, ministers, MPs, MLAs, leaders, Company CEOs, Heads, and parents of 16,000+ degrees and awards recipient students also witnessed the convocation ceremony.

LPU DE Students from Ludhiana got Academic and Career Counselling at LPU

Hundreds of LPU DE Students from Ludhiana visited university campus on April 22, 2017 and interacted with university faculty and staff members for academic and career counselling.

Students interacted with officials of Directorate of Distance Education, got motivated to put their best and honest efforts in their career pursuits and shared their feedback on various technology enhanced features adopted by the university to facilitate their self learning. DE students also cleared their doubts related to academics, study material, evaluation, certification, university events etc. They also shared their academic experiences and expressed their desire to make use of the extensive opportunities being extended to them at par with regular students.

In addition to the academic and career counselling, DE students were oriented about various aspects of LPU's Distance Education system through interactive presentations. Many of the visiting students also displayed their creative abilities when they presented their self composed musical and literary compositions. Students were also taken for the guided trip of the campus and were shown various student-centric initiatives and vast infrastructure of the university.
