Personal Contact Programme for Distance Education Students organized by LPU at its Campus from 6th to 10th December 2016


A week long Personal Contact Programme (PCP) for Distance Education students was recently concluded at Lovely Professional University campus. Hundreds of students from various parts of Punjab attended the PCP and interacted with expert university faculty for face to face academic counseling.


Based on the online registration of the students, university planned and conducted PCP classes in the disciplines of Management, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Commerce, Library & Information Sciences, Economics, Education, Mathematics, English, Hindi, Punjabi, Political Science, History and Sociology. Around 130 faculty members were engaged to conduct classes pertaining to 260+ courses. Students from places like Phagwara, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Malerkotla, Amritsar, Muktsar, Ropar, Mohali, Patiala, Tanda, Nabha, Nawanshahr, Malout, Abohar, Bathinda, Jagraon, Fazilka, Rajpura, Kapurthala, Banga, Budhlada, Moga, Nakodar, Ajnala, Mansa, Sunam, Rayya, Chamkaur Sahib, Pathankot etc.



While sharing their experiences, one of the students told, "I am very happy and excited to be a part of LPU. This is the only university which gives opportunity to DE students to come to the campus, attend classes and take part in university events like regular students. Faculty is also very cooperative and their way of teaching is very interesting and informative."
 

Representing the country Burundi, LPU DE secured 2nd runners up position in One World 2016



LPU DE students from Ludhiana, Nawanshahr, Amritsar and Jalandhar participated in LPU’s mega event “One World” held on 22nd & 23rd November 2016 at University Campus and represented the Country Burundi. The spirited performance of DE students, who collaborated with LPU regular students from Burundi, got them second runners up position along with the cash award of Rs. 10,000.



His Excellency Mr. Alem Tsehaye Worldemariam (Ambassador of Eritrea to India), H.E. Mr. Illiassou Ali (Ambassador of Niger to India), a+nd H.E. Mr. Samake Niankoro Yeah (Ambassador of Mali to India) inaugurated the event.


The theme of this year’s One World was “World Peace. DE students not only got the opportunity to learn and imbibe the cultural values of Burundi but also got International exposure to know about the diverse cultural heritage of various Countries by interacting with regular students belonging to different countries. “One World” strengthened international spirit, understanding and bonds of oneness at LPU Campus. Colourful procession, expo stalls, International music and dance shows made DE students imbibe.

LPU DE Students from Raikot, Barnala, Bhadaur and Dhuri visited university campus

                                                                                
More than 250 students from Raikot, Barnala, Bhadaur and Dhuri belonging to LPU DE programmes of different streams visited university campus on 22nd October 2016 and got oriented about various endeavors of the university in the field of higher and distance education.



Students interacted with officials of Lovely Faculty of Distance Education and got motivated to put their best and honest efforts in their career pursuits. They also shared their feedback on various student oriented features adopted by the university to facilitate self learning of students.



Many of the visiting students displayed their creative abilities when they presented their self composed musical and literary compositions. Students were taken around on the guided trip of the campus which made them note and appreciate many engineering and architectural marvels of LPU.




Illustrative, LPU gives opportunities to DE students to interact directly with university officials. During these interactions, DE students can clear their doubts regarding their issues related to academics, study material, evaluation, certification, university events etc.

LPU DE students proved their mettle in Spectra & YouthVibe 2016


In recently held mega events Spectra and YouthVibe 2016, LPU Distance Education students participated in various cultural events and won various laurels.

In Inter-School Cultural Competition
Spectra 2016, LPU DE Students from Urapar, Ludhiana, Samrala, Rayya, Dasuya, Chabbal, Sahnewal, Kapurthala, and Tarn Taran participated in events like Rangoli, Card Making, Poster Making, Collage Making, Light Vocal Indian Music, Rapstar: Indian Solo, Instrumental, Dancing Soul-Folk, The Dancing Massenger: Theme Choreography and Virasat: Folk Group Dance. Ms. Komal Kochher & Group won 2nd Position in the event Virasat: Folk Group Dance while Ms. Loveneet Bedi won 3rd position in Rangoli event.


In Global Youth Fest - YouthVibe 2016, LPU Distance Education students locked their horns with participated from various institutes across globe to win whooping cash prizes. LPU DE students performed exceptionally well and proved their mettle in the events like Heena Making, Greeting card making, Modelling, Kolam, Rainbow, Theater, Light Vocal etc. In Heena: Mehndi Designing  competition Ms. Bheena Jaswal & Ms. Renuka Jaswal won 1st prize leaving all competitors behind by using exceptional technique and design,  Mr. Rohit & Ms. Loveneet Bedi jointly won 1st position in Poly-Papero: Dress Designing Competition and gave shape to their thinking and creativity, A team of Mr. Rohit, Ms. Renuka Jaswal & Ms. Bheena Jaswal won 1st position in Karigiri: Soap Carving, Photo-framing & Paper Flower Bouquet,  Mr. Rohit expressed the theme well in making greeting card and won 1st prize in Expression: Greeting Card making Competition, Again making their mark in Kolam: 3D Rangoli, Doodling & Re-use based competition, team of Ms. Rohit, Ms. Bheena Jaswal & Ms. Renuka Jaswal bagged 1st position. LPU DE students showed their mastery over fine arts category winning 5 first positions back to back. Students from various locations like Urapar, Bhatinda, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Dasuya etc. participated in Youthvibe 2016. In all, LPU DE students won cash prizes worth Rs. 37,000.

Hundreds of students from various locations of Punjab attended the PCP classes and interacted with expert university faculty for face to face academic counselling.
Based on the online registration of the students, university planned and conducted PCP classes in the disciplines of Management, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Commerce, Library & Information Sciences, Economics, Education, Mathematics, English, Hindi, Punjabi, Political Science, History and Sociology. Around 130 faculty members were engaged to conduct classes pertaining to 260+ courses. Out-stationed students resided in the university hostel during the PCP.
 
While sharing their experiences, one of the students quoted "It is a great opportunity for working professionals like us to get conceptual understanding of our courses from the expert faculty of the University and to get such wonderful exposure. Qualification upgradation would enhance our promotional avenues and would equip us with better skills to discharge our job related duties efficiently."

LPU DE‬ rated outstanding for offering ‪Distance Education‬ programmes

This is a matter of great honour that Lovely Professional University Distance Education has been rated outstanding (4.5 stars - the highest rating for DE institutes) among India’s top 65 universities/ institutes for offering quality Distance Education programmes. The rating was published by prestigious "Career Connect" magazine in its July 2016 issue based on the research and assessment done on various parameters like Accreditation, Image, Study Material, Placements and Responsiveness.

Students from places like Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Mahilpur, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Amritsar,  Phagwara, Sangrur, Nawanshahr, Rajpura, Dasuya,Kapurthala, Banga, Moga, Nakodar, Ajnala , Mansa, Sunam, Anandpur Sahib and Garhshanker attended the PCP classes. Out-stationed students resided in the university hostel during the PCP.

While sharing their experiences, One of the students quoted "It is a great opportunity for DE students to interact with experts of the University and to study in such a good atmosphere, Due to financial crisis I never went to college and it was my dream to go to a college. Attending PCP at university campus is like dream come true"

LPU DE got People's Choice Award in mega event ‪One India 2016 for representing the state of Maharashtra

Directorate of ‪Distance Education of ‪Lovely Professional University got People's Choice Award (Popular Award) in mega event ‪One India 2016 for representing the state of Maharashtra. LPU DE students collaborated with LPU’s Maharashtra students for participation in the event held on 25th & 26th March 2016 at University Campus.

 
His Excellency India ChargĂ© d'Affaires of Romania, Mr Radu Octavian Dobre inaugurated ‘One India’ Expo-2016.
LPUDE students from places like Nakodar, Jalandhar, Urapar, Amritsar & Nawanshahr participated in the event with commendable contribution from  Ms. Neha  and Ms Debna (both from Garhshankar), Ms. Renuka Jaswal (Urapar) , Ms Ravneet Kaur (from Amritsar)and Ms. Neeshu from Nawanshahr.
Celebrating theme of the year “Itihaas Ke Pannon Se”, LPU students displayed historic contributions of Indian States individually. The Major attractions of the Maharashtra Stall was the handmade paintings of various personalities and the attire of the students who were depicting characters of famous personalities from the history of Maharashtra like Shivaji, Bajirao and Mastani , Bal Gangadhar Tilak etc.

LPU DE Students participated in 8th Annual Sports Meet of LPU

LPU DE students from different locations of Punjab participated in various sports events along with the regular students in the 8th Annual Sports Meet of Lovely Professional University held on 18th and 19th March 2016. 

Students and staff members of Directorate of Distance Education also participated in the torch rally and March Past during the inauguration ceremony of the sports meet.


 Around 150 Distance Education students from locations like Ajnala, Amloh, Amritsar, Dhariwal, Guru Har Sahai, Jalalabad, Khanna, Ludhiana, Mullanpur, Nakodar, Nawanshahar, Phillaur, Raikot, Jalandhar and Sahnewal  competed in the categories of 100 m, 200 m, 400 m,  800 m, 1500 m, 5000 m,  4x100 m Relay,  4x400 m Relay,  High Jump,  Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus Throw, Hammer Throw, Javelin Throw and Shot Put.

Out-stationed students resided in the university hostel during the PCP.

LPU DE Students conferred with Academic Honours and Degrees by Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica during 6th Convocation of LPU

Prime-Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit felicitated 20 LPU DE students for their academic performance in their respective programmes and conferred degrees on around 6893 LPU DE students of 2015 passing batch in the glittering convocation ceremony held at LPU campus.


PM Skerrit, who chaired the 6th convocation of Lovely Professional University held at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium, was conferred with ‘Honoris Causa’ Doctor of Letters degree of LPU for his dynamism and farsightedness. This honour is also in recognition of his sincere desire to build international harmony among nations and for his outstanding public services and excellent governance. 


PM Skerrit was accompanied by high profiled delegation including Cabinet Secretary Mr Steve Ferrol of Dominica Republic. The Chief Editor of Ajit Group of Publications Padam Bhushan Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard, Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar and Director General Er HR Singla also shared main dais along with the Chief Guest. 


Inspiring the mammoth gathering of graduating students, PM Skerrit said “Believe in yourself, your remarkable country & the Creator. Step out with great force to face the world on positive notes; you, too, can become PM, CEO or a leading global entrepreneur.” Thanking LPU time and again and quoting LPU as one of the progressive universities of the world, PM Skerrit expressed his strong desire to collaborate with LPU in India for students and culture exchange programmes. Continuing he said, “Geometrical boundaries should not be challenges for us.  The honour which I have received here, I dedicate the same to youth of both the countries India and Dominica for their diligence and hard work, and urge them to create and navigate a new globalized world.” 


Prior to this, welcoming the elite gathering, graduating students and their parents, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed all that PM Skerrit is a charismatic leader & great visionary. When he was chosen Prime Minister in 2004 at the age of 31, he became the youngest Prime Minister of the world. Mr Skerrit has been dynamic MP from the Vieille Case Constituency of the Caribbean island continuously since 2000. Addressing the students Mr Mittal asked them to always think big to achieve big: “In today’s world no one is too young, inexperienced or immature to dream and achieve. You have scores of examples before you including the chief guest of the day who became PM of a nation when he was only 31 years old, CEOs of Facebook, Google, Flipkart and more.  All great things achieved in this world, once seemed impossible to achieve. So start with the things which you like to start with, in your career ahead.” 


Vice Chancellor Dr Kanwar presented the annual report of the university. Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard presented Vote of Thanks.
