Nobel Laureate‬ ‪Dalai Lama‬ Chaired the 2nd phase of 5th ‪Convocation‬ of ‪LPU‬

Nobel Laureate for Peace & the great spiritual leader of Tibet, Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso graced the 2nd phase of 5th Convocation of LPU as Chief Guest, which was held at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium on Saturday, 14th November 2015. 

 
His Holiness honoured LPU toppers of various academic programs with gold medals. Near 4000 LPU students of Batch 2015 pass outs were also awarded with degrees. 


On the same day, LPU proudly conferred the Degree of Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa, upon His Holiness Dalai Lama for his courageous statesmanship, scientific temperament, and universal benevolence.

 
Prior to this, LPU Tibetan students accorded traditional welcome to the Dalai Lama through “Tashi Shopa” (Mask) dance and playing of folk instruments.

 

‘You are the 21st century people and should make this a century of peace, love and compassion. Prime purpose of us all in this life is to help others. If we can't help, at least we should not hurt others.’ This was the forceful message conveyed in the convocation address by His Holiness to the graduating students of Lovely Professional University.


Governor Punjab & Haryana and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki presided over the convocation ceremony.

The Chief Editor of Ajit Group of Publications S Barjinder Singh Hamdard presented vote of thanks. Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar and MD Nissan Motors Mr Arun Malhotra shared the dais with the Chief Guest.

His Holiness Dalai Lama further invoked the students: “Preserve India’s great culture for a better world as overall picture of India is harmony. India is ‘Guru’ of all Tibetans. India should share its power of tolerance with the world. In fact, India is like a guru to the world also.” He demanded of students: “To make self and others feel happy; we must practice compassion. This is my simple religion. The present problems in the world are created only by the people themselves. We will have to solve out these ourselves. No God or prayers can get us out of our self created problems. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple and its philosophy should be peace and compassion.”


Eulogizing the esteemed Chief Guest, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal exclaimed: “His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso is great propagator of global peace, secular ethics and inter-religious harmony and his teachings have inspired billions of people all over the world to seek peace and practice forgiveness. We are indeed fortunate enough on welcoming him to such an auspicious occasion when thousands of students are ready to open new chapter of their life.” 

Illustratively, LPU 5th Convocation for Regular as well as Distance Education students was consciously designed to be scheduled in two phases. Hon`ble Prime Minister of Lesotho Kingdom Dr Pakalitha B. Mosisili blessed LPU students on 31st October 2015, during the first phase.

LPUDE Students’ achievements in YouthVibe 2015 – LPU Global Youth Fest

LPU DE students from various locations of Punjab like Jalandhar, Urapar, Nakodar, Mahilpur and Ludhiana competed with students of various universities and colleges from different parts of the country in LPU Global Open Youth Festival YouthVibe 2015 and won laurels in the following events:

1st in Greeting Card Making: LPU DE Student from Jalandhar Mr. Rohit exhibited his exemplary Fine Arts abilities and secured 1st position in Greeting Card making competition bagging Cash Reward of Rs. 4000.


 
1st in Heena Making: A team of LPU DE Students from Urapar consisting of Ms. Poonam Rani and Ms. Paramjit Kaur impressed the judges with their Mehandi design thereby winning 1st position and a cash reward of Rs. 6000 in Heena making competition.

 

2nd in Karigiri: Team of Mr. Rohit (Jalandhar), Ms. Renuka Jaswal and Bheena Jaswal (Urapar) won 2nd position and cash reward of Rs. 4000 in another Fine Art event – Karigiri.

LPU Distance Education Students conferred with Degrees during 5th Annual Convocation of LPU chaired by Prime Minister of Lesotho

The Chief Guest at 5th Convocation of Lovely Professional University Right Hon’ble Prime Minister of Kingdom of Lesotho Dr. Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili advised 15,000 graduating LPU students to follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.  


During the convocation, 8766 Distance Education students of batch pass year 2015 got their degrees and certificate.  22 Distance Education students were conferred with awards of academic honours owing to their distinguished academic performance. 

 

LPU also proudly conferred its ‘Honoris Causa’ Degree of Doctor of Letters upon PM Mosisili for his dedication and continuous endeavors to uphold peace and harmony, and in recognition of his outstanding public service and excellent governance. PM Mosisili is considered as one of the top leaders of Africa for putting forth several policies to reduce poverty, build peace and stability.


PM Dr. Mosisili was accompanied by high profiled 23-member delegation including First Lady of the Kingdom Mrs Mathato Mosisidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Tlohang Sekhamane. Governor Punjab & Haryana & Administrator of UT Chandigarh Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki presided over the convocation ceremony. Lovely International Trust Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, and Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar accompanied the elite guests.

Inspiring the mammoth gathering of graduating students, PM Mosisilii asked them to go out in the world and fly free like eagles in the sky. He laid great stress on having stronger Indo- African relations and collaborations for the betterment of the people in diverse fields. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi time and again he was confident while saying that India and Lesotho in Africa are destined to re-define relations between the two countries.

PM Mosisili also expressed his deep gratitude to the Government and the people of Punjab and India as a whole for high mark of friendship. He desired to have greater ties with Punjab in the fields of agriculture and education. Praising LPU as a true example of a modern education township, he quoted LPU as an academic flagship of Punjab by standing out as a centre of learning in so far as excellence in education is concerned. He told students: “LPU is a unique institution and it has opened its doors to students from Africa in the true spirit of Mahatma Gandhi and contemporary Africa-India Co-operation. It is only through quality education that a country shapes its children; however, quality without principles is one of the seven deadly sins. Broaden your horizon; and go ahead in the world with all goodness within you as true ambassadors of your alma mater.”
Governor Solanki said: “When I look at LPU students, I see the entire world at the campus. Convocation is an important milestone in the educational journey of a student. As leaders of the future global community, I urge students to develop sensitivity towards the ever evolving human needs. I exhort graduating students to contribute to the best of your abilities to the challenging task of nation building.”


Welcoming the elite gathering, graduating students and their parents, LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal informed all that PM Mosisili is a charismatic leader & great visionary. He is guided by three principles of leadership – Passion, Purpose and People through which he continuously strives to build international admiration for Lesotho.
