LPU organized Personal Contact Programme for Distance Education students at its Campus

LPU organized Personal Contact Programme (PCP) for its Distance Education students at University campus in the first week of December 2015. Hundreds of students from places like Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Batala, Amritsar, Phagwara, Ropar, Bassi Pathana, Tanda Urmar, Nawanshahr, Bathinda, Chabhal, Banga, Budhlada, Moga, Sahnewal, Nakodar, Adampur, Raikot, Sunam, Anandpur Sahib, Cheema Mandi, Kharar, Mohali, Pathankot, Talwandi Sabo, Phillaur, Hoshiarpur, Tarn-Taran and Urapar  interacted with expert university faculty for face to face academic counselling sessions.

Based on the online registration of the students, university planned and conducted PCP classes in the disciplines of Management, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Computer Science, Commerce, Library & Information Sciences and Arts. Classes pertaining to 170 courses were engaged by more than 100 faculty members.

LPU DE secured 2nd Runners-up position in Global mega event One World for representing the country Sudan

LPU DE students from various locations across Punjab participated in LPU’s Global mega event “One World” held on 26th & 27th November 2015 at University Campus and secured 2nd runners up position for representing the Country Sudan in collaboration with LPU’s Sudanese students.


The event was inaugurated by His Excellencies Ambassadors from six countries: Mr. Dembo M Badjie from Gambia, Mr. El Hadji Ibou Boye from Senegal, Ms. Elizabeth Paula Napeyok from Uganda, Mr. Faruque Omar Faquira from Mozambique, Mr. Ahmed Mohamud Mohamed from Somalia and Deputy High Commissioner and Minister Plenipotentiary Mr. Malose William Mogale from South Africa. Deputy Head of Mission & First Counsellor of Senegal Mr. Abdoul Aziz Loum, First Secretary of Mozambique Mr. Augusto Antonio Generoso, Educational Attaché from Uganda Mr. Baker Nantawuna Balunywa and Diplomat Attaché from Gambia Mr. Sankung Fofana also accompanied the Ambassadors.


Theme of this grand international festivity was Travel & Tourism. About 2000 LPU international students from different countries showcased culture of their respective countries. Colourful procession with attractive tableaus depicting culture of the represented countries, expo stalls, musical & dance shows let thousands of students to imbibe global brotherhood values to the core.


LPUDE students from places like Nakodar, Jalandhar, Urapar, Ludhiana & Nawanshahr participated in the event with commendable contribution from  Mr. Chetan Bhardwaj, Mr. Nand Kishore, Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Mr. Lovepreet Singh, Mr. Bhupinder Kumar, Mr. Sukhwinder Singh (all from Nakodar); Mr. Rohit Gupta (Jalandhar), Ms. Renuka Jaswal (Urapar), Mr. Sandeep Dutt (Ludhiana), Ms. Heena, Mr. Balraj Singh and others from Nawanshahr.

Nobel Laureate‬ ‪Dalai Lama‬ Chaired the 2nd phase of 5th ‪Convocation‬ of ‪LPU‬

Nobel Laureate for Peace & the great spiritual leader of Tibet, Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso graced the 2nd phase of 5th Convocation of LPU as Chief Guest, which was held at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium on Saturday, 14th November 2015. 

 
His Holiness honoured LPU toppers of various academic programs with gold medals. Near 4000 LPU students of Batch 2015 pass outs were also awarded with degrees. 


On the same day, LPU proudly conferred the Degree of Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa, upon His Holiness Dalai Lama for his courageous statesmanship, scientific temperament, and universal benevolence.

 
Prior to this, LPU Tibetan students accorded traditional welcome to the Dalai Lama through “Tashi Shopa” (Mask) dance and playing of folk instruments.

 

‘You are the 21st century people and should make this a century of peace, love and compassion. Prime purpose of us all in this life is to help others. If we can't help, at least we should not hurt others.’ This was the forceful message conveyed in the convocation address by His Holiness to the graduating students of Lovely Professional University.


Governor Punjab & Haryana and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki presided over the convocation ceremony.

The Chief Editor of Ajit Group of Publications S Barjinder Singh Hamdard presented vote of thanks. Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar and MD Nissan Motors Mr Arun Malhotra shared the dais with the Chief Guest.

His Holiness Dalai Lama further invoked the students: “Preserve India’s great culture for a better world as overall picture of India is harmony. India is ‘Guru’ of all Tibetans. India should share its power of tolerance with the world. In fact, India is like a guru to the world also.” He demanded of students: “To make self and others feel happy; we must practice compassion. This is my simple religion. The present problems in the world are created only by the people themselves. We will have to solve out these ourselves. No God or prayers can get us out of our self created problems. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple and its philosophy should be peace and compassion.”


Eulogizing the esteemed Chief Guest, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal exclaimed: “His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso is great propagator of global peace, secular ethics and inter-religious harmony and his teachings have inspired billions of people all over the world to seek peace and practice forgiveness. We are indeed fortunate enough on welcoming him to such an auspicious occasion when thousands of students are ready to open new chapter of their life.” 

Illustratively, LPU 5th Convocation for Regular as well as Distance Education students was consciously designed to be scheduled in two phases. Hon`ble Prime Minister of Lesotho Kingdom Dr Pakalitha B. Mosisili blessed LPU students on 31st October 2015, during the first phase.

LPUDE Students’ achievements in YouthVibe 2015 – LPU Global Youth Fest

LPU DE students from various locations of Punjab like Jalandhar, Urapar, Nakodar, Mahilpur and Ludhiana competed with students of various universities and colleges from different parts of the country in LPU Global Open Youth Festival YouthVibe 2015 and won laurels in the following events:

1st in Greeting Card Making: LPU DE Student from Jalandhar Mr. Rohit exhibited his exemplary Fine Arts abilities and secured 1st position in Greeting Card making competition bagging Cash Reward of Rs. 4000.


 
1st in Heena Making: A team of LPU DE Students from Urapar consisting of Ms. Poonam Rani and Ms. Paramjit Kaur impressed the judges with their Mehandi design thereby winning 1st position and a cash reward of Rs. 6000 in Heena making competition.

 

2nd in Karigiri: Team of Mr. Rohit (Jalandhar), Ms. Renuka Jaswal and Bheena Jaswal (Urapar) won 2nd position and cash reward of Rs. 4000 in another Fine Art event – Karigiri.

LPU Distance Education Students conferred with Degrees during 5th Annual Convocation of LPU chaired by Prime Minister of Lesotho

The Chief Guest at 5th Convocation of Lovely Professional University Right Hon’ble Prime Minister of Kingdom of Lesotho Dr. Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili advised 15,000 graduating LPU students to follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.  


During the convocation, 8766 Distance Education students of batch pass year 2015 got their degrees and certificate.  22 Distance Education students were conferred with awards of academic honours owing to their distinguished academic performance. 

 

LPU also proudly conferred its ‘Honoris Causa’ Degree of Doctor of Letters upon PM Mosisili for his dedication and continuous endeavors to uphold peace and harmony, and in recognition of his outstanding public service and excellent governance. PM Mosisili is considered as one of the top leaders of Africa for putting forth several policies to reduce poverty, build peace and stability.


PM Dr. Mosisili was accompanied by high profiled 23-member delegation including First Lady of the Kingdom Mrs Mathato Mosisidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Tlohang Sekhamane. Governor Punjab & Haryana & Administrator of UT Chandigarh Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki presided over the convocation ceremony. Lovely International Trust Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, and Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar accompanied the elite guests.

Inspiring the mammoth gathering of graduating students, PM Mosisilii asked them to go out in the world and fly free like eagles in the sky. He laid great stress on having stronger Indo- African relations and collaborations for the betterment of the people in diverse fields. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi time and again he was confident while saying that India and Lesotho in Africa are destined to re-define relations between the two countries.

PM Mosisili also expressed his deep gratitude to the Government and the people of Punjab and India as a whole for high mark of friendship. He desired to have greater ties with Punjab in the fields of agriculture and education. Praising LPU as a true example of a modern education township, he quoted LPU as an academic flagship of Punjab by standing out as a centre of learning in so far as excellence in education is concerned. He told students: “LPU is a unique institution and it has opened its doors to students from Africa in the true spirit of Mahatma Gandhi and contemporary Africa-India Co-operation. It is only through quality education that a country shapes its children; however, quality without principles is one of the seven deadly sins. Broaden your horizon; and go ahead in the world with all goodness within you as true ambassadors of your alma mater.”
Governor Solanki said: “When I look at LPU students, I see the entire world at the campus. Convocation is an important milestone in the educational journey of a student. As leaders of the future global community, I urge students to develop sensitivity towards the ever evolving human needs. I exhort graduating students to contribute to the best of your abilities to the challenging task of nation building.”


Welcoming the elite gathering, graduating students and their parents, LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal informed all that PM Mosisili is a charismatic leader & great visionary. He is guided by three principles of leadership – Passion, Purpose and People through which he continuously strives to build international admiration for Lesotho.

LPU DE Students' Achievements & Performace Highlights during SPECTRA 2015

LPU DE students from various locations of Punjab like Mahilpur, Nakodar, Urapar, Ludhiana, Phagwara and Jalandhar participated with full enthusiasm in the LPU’s annual competitive inter-school cultural fest- Spectra 2015 and proved their mettle in the following events:



1st in Virasat - Folk Group Dance: The energetic and vivacious performance of LPU DE Students from Mahilpur won the hearts of audience and judges alike. Team consisting of Simranjit Singh, Manpreet Kaur,  Jasvir Kaur, Suraj Parkash Singh, Paramjit Singh and Amandeep Kaur made everyone to groove on Bhangra beats and bagged the first position among all the schools of LPU. The DE students were specifically asked to perform in front of distinguished guests during prize distribution ceremony.


3rd in Virasat - Folk Group Dance: In the same category, another team of LPU DE Students from Nakodar bagged 3rd position. The team consisting of Nand Kishore, Chetan Bhardwaj, Mukesh Kumar, Lovepreet Singh, Bhupinder Kumar and Sukhwinder Singh impressed the judges with their spectacular formations and rhythm.

3rd in Soap carving+ Photoframing+ Paper flower bouquet making: LPU DE Student from Urapar – Ms. Renuka Jaswal bagged 3rd position in the Fine-Arts event of Soap carving+ Photoframing+ Paper flower bouquet making.


Besides making their present felt in the colourful cultural procession during the event, the DE students also participated in Photography, Rangoli, Greeting Card making, Skit and Light Vocal Music events. The traditional Punjabi cuisine of Makki Di Roti, Sarson Daa Saag & Lassi served by the DE students from Phagwara in the stall allocated to them was relished by the students and faculty alike

Personal Contact Programme for Distance Education Students organized by LPU at its Campus in Sep-Oct 2015

LPU organized Personal Contact Programme (PCP) for its Distance Education students at University campus from September end till first week of October 2015. Students from places like Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Banga, Sahnewal, Nakodar, Adampur, Talwandi Sabo interacted with expert university faculty for face to face academic counselling sessions. 

 
Students were earlier asked to register themselves online to avail PCP in their enrolled courses. Based on their response, university planned and conducted PCP classes in the disciplines of Management, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Commerce, Mathematics, Library & Information Sciences and Arts. Students from remote locations of Punjab availed hostel facility of the university and had firsthand experience of university life.

LPU always strives to provide best of opportunities to its DE students and conducting PCP for DE students at university campus is one of the endeavor of LPU in this direction.

Lovely Professional University ranked 3rd among India’s top universities offering Distance Education

Lovely Professional University has been ranked 3rd among India’s top 45 universities offering Distance Education and 1st among the private universities. The ranking was published in July 2015 issue of ‘Career Connect’ magazine featuring ‘Best Distance Education Universities of India’. The top 2 slots were occupied by the two mega universities of India, IGNOU New Delhi and YCMOU Nasik. 

Illustratively, LPU has achieved this feat in the shortest time span being the youngest university (established 2005) to make its way to the top 5 DE providers in the country. In the cover story of the magazine, the various features of LPU DE have been highlighted under ‘Expert Opine’ section which has covered the interaction of magazine’s correspondent with Mr. Ashok Mittal – Chancellor LPU. 

Emphasizing the technology driven blended approach of LPU to offer its Distance Education Programmes at Masters, Bachelors, Post Graduate Diploma, and Diploma levels in the disciplines of Management, Computer Application, Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Commerce, Arts and Library & Information Sciences, Mr. Mittal elaborated that LPU DE programmes are designed to serve the societal needs for equitable and anytime anywhere access to affordable education without compromising its quality with the efficient utilization of technology driven resources. The modern and vast IT infrastructure and the expertise of its dedicated and experienced faculty at university campus have helped it to devise such an efficient system which included provision of Exhaustive Online Support through LPU e-Connect (Online Learning Management System). Additionally, Personal Contact Programmes at the University Campus, Phagwara, Punjab are conducted for various courses. Students are provided with placement support by informing them from time to time about various placement drives conducted in collaboration with various companies to enable them to avail the desired opportunities. Moreover LPU DE students get opportunities at par with regular students to participate in various national and international events at university to channelize their creative talent. Many of the LPU DE students have already proved their mettle in various academic, sports and cultural events.
