LPU Distance Education Students exhibited their literary skills at University Campus

More than 225 students from Raikot & Jagraon belonging to different streams of LPU Distance education programmes visited university campus and exhibited their literary skills in Extempore & Debate competitions. Students were given the topics on the spot to test their spontaneity and ingenuity. Students spoke on varied issues ranging from pollution, education, drug abuse, life, sports, role of media and more. Debate on Social Evils witnesses heated arguments from opposing teams. 

With their distinguished performances, Ms. Virpal Kaur, Ms. Anjali and Mr. Sukhwinder Singh secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in Extempore. Raikot team comprising of Ms. Navneet Kaur, Mr. Param Singh and Ms. Tamanna outdid the others in debate. 
In addition to participating in the literary events, the visiting Distance students also interacted with university officials in doubt clearing session. This unique venture of LPU Distance Education to provide its students a level playing field to visit university campus and to interact directly with university officials is attracting many of the distance mode students to have a first hand feel of university atmosphere. The students were also taken to the guided trip of the university campus. 

Some International, National and University level sports persons in the fields of Kabbadi, Football and athletics were also part of the visiting Distance Education students which inlclude Mr. Satinder Singh, Mr. Lakhbir Singh, Mr. Mandeep Singh, Ms. Sarabjit Kaur and Mr. Gagandeep Singh. The students came to know about the opportunities for DE students to get their talents further groomed by university sports officials.

LPU Distance Education bagged World Education Summit Award (WES) 2014 for LPU e-Connect

Distance Education program of Lovely Professional University has bagged World Education Summit Award (WES) 2014 for its online Learning Management System, “LPU e-Connect”. ‘WES Award’ for LPU is fourth time in a row since 2011. The Awards ceremony was held in New Delhi which was organised in association with UNESCO, AICTE, Ministry of Labour and Employment, top educationists and policy makers from India and abroad. The keynote address was given by Hon’ble Minister Dr Najma Heptulla during the inaugural session.
Expressing happiness over this achievement, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “It is a matter of great pride to win WES award initiative honour for the fourth time in a row.” Informing about the LPU e-Connect Mr Mittal elaborated: “Our e-connect program is an exceptional online support of LPU Distance Education. It links University and students located at different geographical locations. It automates various administrative and academic processes of distance education. Our distance education students do not need to visit the university as they can remain connected through their e-connect account. Moreover, LPU e-connect is very important tool for making all the systems of DE transparent and efficient.”

LPU Distance Education is recognised by UGC Distance Education Bureau, and students from various locations can take advantage of it to pursue their formal education from their homes and working places. LPU Distance Education student athletes get grooming tips from trainers at university

National and State level athlete students of LPU Distance Education from Rayya (Amritsar),  interacted with sports officials of the Lovely Professional University during their campus visit recently . Mr. Sukhjinder Singh, Mr. Kirandeep Singh and Mr. Simandeep had already left their mark in annual sports meet of LPU in February 2014 by winning gold and silver medals in events like Javelin Throw, 800 meter race, 5000 meter race and Long Jump after competing with regular students. The athletes were keen to get LPU platform to represent university at National level. Sports officials of the university interacted with these budding athletes to work out the modalities to polish their talent further. 

The athletes were part of a group comprising of 100 LPU DE students from Rayya who visited LPU campus and interacted with university officials. 

During the visit, DE students were oriented about various aspects of LPU's higher and distance education system through interactive presentations and were taken on the guided tour of the campus. Students also shared their views about various features of LPU Distance Education.

On asking why she chose LPU distance Education, one of the visiting students Ms. Pardeep Kaur told that she joined M.Sc. IT programme of LPU DE to enhance her job prospects. The quest to see working of India's largest university, pulled Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, student of B.A. programme of LPU DE, to university campus. Beaming with confidence, another B.A student, Mr. Bhupinder Singh emphasized  that in addition to catering to their academic aspirations, LPU DE progarmmes have also enhanced their confidence which they consider as the first step of success.
